Record in Iceland — Interview with Observador

While presenting Record in Iceland at Westway LAB in Portugal in 2022, I spoke to Portuguese newspaper Observador about Iceland's approach to music as an industry and the role of government investment in supporting its growth.

I talked about the unusual relationship between culture and business in Icelandic policymaking, and why the Icelandic music industry had long argued for music to be treated as an economic sector — one that generates revenue and creates jobs.

“In Iceland, professionals have long argued that music has to be taken seriously, as an industry. It is not a hobby, it generates money, it creates jobs.”

— Hrefna Helgadóttir, Observador
