Arcade Fire × Promogogo

I was Product Manager at music-tech platform Promogogo when Arcade Fire became one of the artists using the product in 2014.

One of the problems we were working on was how to capture what was happening in the audience at live shows. Fans were already taking and sharing thousands of photos, but hashtags were messy and inconsistent — and many people didn't tag their photos at all.

Instead, the product used Instagram location data alongside where and when an artist had actually performed to identify photos taken by fans at the concert and surface them on the artist's website.

Then something interesting happened.

When Arcade Fire's feed went live, fans got excited about seeing themselves and their photos appear on the website. More people started posting from the shows, creating a feedback loop between the live audience and the artist's digital presence.

Arcade Fire's use of Promogogo was covered by Viðskiptablaðið and Nútíminn in November 2014.
